Challenges of building a game engine for the modern web

Date : Monday, November 12th - 14.30 - 15.30 > 511E

Description: common implementations of game engine and editor features take full advantage of specific platform knowledge. One of the core principles of modern web standards is to hide the underlying platform from an application for security, privacy, and interoperability reasons. In this session we will discuss some of the techniques that we used to overcome these limitations while still delivering the features expected from a modern game platform.

Targeted public: this is targeted at anyone wishing to learn about implementation difficulties that are unique to high performance modern web applications. Anyone with an interest in game engine design or complex web application development would also find this talk useful. Basic knowledge of HTML5 and C++ needed.

Takeaways: the modern web is ready for high quality game development tools, and we explored some techniques for dealing with platform abstractions.
